    PRIVACY POLICY

    Your information, handled with care.

This page explains, in plain words, what information joinsbnp.org collects, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have.

    Last updated October 18, 2026.

    The short version

    • We collect what you choose to give us (when you sign up, write to us, volunteer or donate), plus basic information about visits from analytics and advertising tools.
    • We do not sell your personal information.
    • We only text you if you enter your number and tick the box that says so. Reply STOP any time.
    • The court finder and read-aloud on Philly Safety Data work on your device. Your location is never sent to us.
    • Questions? Email info@joinsbnp.org or call 267-571-6674.

    Who we are

Shoot Basketballs NOT People (“SBNP,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (EIN 46-1767733). This policy covers our website, joinsbnp.org. Our store and donation checkout at store.joinsbnp.org run on Shopify and also have their own privacy policy.

    What we collect and why

    When you visit

Like most websites, ours learns a little about every visit so it can work, stay safe and get better.

    • Cloudflare, which hosts the site, receives your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for, so it can send you the page and block attacks.
    • Google Analytics records which pages are viewed, for how long, which site sent you, your device and browser type, your rough location (about city level, worked out from your IP address), clicks on our Donate buttons, and that a contact, volunteer or sign-up form was sent or a gift was started (never what you wrote or your contact details). It uses cookies to tell one visit from the next.
    • Google Tag Manager loads Google Ads tags. They use cookies to measure whether our ads lead people to visit, sign up or tap Donate, and to show SBNP ads to people who have visited our site when they are on other websites (this is called remarketing).

When you sign up for updates

Our newsletter form asks for your email address and, if you want texts, your mobile number. Our sign-up pop-up asks for your email address, first and last name, and, if you like, a phone number. We use this to send you news about our programs, events and ways to help. It is kept in Klaviyo, along with a note of which form you used.

A phone number given in the pop-up is saved with your details, but it does not sign you up for texts. Texts only start when you tick the text-message box on our newsletter form (see Text messages).

When you write to us or volunteer

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message. Sponsors and partners reach us through this form too.

Our volunteer form asks for more, because volunteers work with young people: your name, gender, email, phone, home address, when you are free, what you would like to help with, your skills, an emergency contact, how you heard about us, why you want to volunteer, any medical conditions or allergies we should know about, whether you have Pennsylvania child abuse, FBI and criminal background clearances, and your typed signature and date. We use it to place volunteers, keep everyone safe, and check the clearances Pennsylvania requires for adults who work with children.

Both forms use Cloudflare’s security check (Turnstile) to stop spam; it looks at your browser and IP address. Your message is emailed to our inbox at info@joinsbnp.org, and a backup copy is stored in our Cloudflare database for one year and then deleted automatically. Messages sent before October 16, 2026 were delivered through a form service called Formspree.

    When you donate

On our Donate page you choose an amount, an optional thank-you tee or hoodie and its size, and, if you like, the name of someone you are giving in honor or memory of. These are added to your order and you finish on Shopify’s secure checkout, where you enter your name, email, payment details and, for a thank-you item, a shipping address.

Shopify and its payment partners handle your payment. We do not see or store your full card number. We receive your order details so we can thank you, ship your item and keep the donation records the law requires.

    What stays on your device

    • Find a court near you (Philly Safety Data): if you tap the button and allow it, your browser shares your location with the page, and the page works out the nearest courts right on your device. Your location is never sent to us or saved.
    • Read aloud (Philly Safety Data): uses the speech feature built into your device or browser. We do not record or receive anything. Some browsers use their maker’s online voices to speak a page’s text.
    • Sign-up pop-up: when you close it, your browser saves the date so we don’t show it again for two days. This note stays in your browser, and clearing your browsing data removes it.
    • Share buttons: copying a link happens on your device. Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn and WhatsApp only get involved if you choose to open them.

    Videos and other websites

Our documentary trailer on the About page plays from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode; YouTube may set cookies once you press play. Video previews on our News page are pictures loaded from YouTube.

We link to other websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Prime Video on Amazon, news stories, City of Philadelphia pages and Google Maps directions. When you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.

    Who helps us

These companies handle information for us so the site can run. They work under their own terms and privacy policies.

    • Cloudflare: Hosts this website, protects it from attacks, runs the security check on our forms (Turnstile), delivers form messages to our inbox, and keeps one-year backup copies of those messages. Cloudflare privacy policy
    • Google: Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (how the site is used), Google Ads (measuring and showing our ads), YouTube (our video), and Google Workspace (our email inbox). Google privacy policy
    • Klaviyo: Keeps our email and text list and sends our newsletters, and texts if you agree to them. Klaviyo privacy policy
    • Shopify: Runs our store and donation checkout at store.joinsbnp.org and handles payment. Shopify privacy policy

    We don’t sell your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give our email or text list to other organizations for their marketing. We may share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of the young people we serve.

    Text messages (SMS)

If you give us your mobile number on our newsletter form and tick the box agreeing to texts, Shoot Basketballs NOT People may text you about our programs, events, ways to help, and replies to your questions. The box is never ticked for you. Texts are sent through Klaviyo.

    • Message frequency varies.
    • Message and data rates may apply.
    • Reply STOP to cancel at any time. We may send one last text confirming you are unsubscribed.
    • Reply HELP for help, or contact us at info@joinsbnp.org or 267-571-6674.
    • Agreeing to texts is not a condition of any purchase or donation.
    • Mobile carriers are not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages.

We do not sell or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.

    Kids and teens

Some of this site, like Philly Safety Data, is written for young readers. Our forms, sign-ups and donations are meant for adults, parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13, and our sign-up pop-up does not appear on Philly Safety Data.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child sent us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

    Cookies and your choices

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Ours come from Google Analytics, Google Ads and, if you play our video, YouTube. You can say no to them:

Our site does not currently change what it does when your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal.

    Emails, updates and your information

    • Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also unsubscribe from our newsletter here.
    • To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email or call us. We may need to confirm it’s you first.
    • Some records we must keep even if you ask us to delete them, such as donation and tax records.

    How long we keep it

    • Backup copies of contact and volunteer messages: one year, then deleted automatically.
    • Messages in our email inbox: as long as we need them to work with you and keep our records.
    • Our email and text list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details. After you unsubscribe, we keep a note of it so you are not added back by mistake.
    • Donation records and receipts: as long as tax and nonprofit laws require.
    • Analytics: for the period set in our Google Analytics account.

    Keeping it safe

The whole site uses a secure connection (HTTPS). Our forms only accept messages sent from our own pages, pass a security check, and go to a small number of SBNP staff. Payments never touch our site. No website can promise perfect security, but we work to protect what you share with us.

    Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Please also read our Terms of Use.
